USE ACTIVE MOVEMENT TO POSTURES TO DEVELOP STRENGTH, FLEXIBILITY AND FITNESS WITHOUT STRESS:
This is a low resolution video from my advanced class (April 2013) demonstrating how to progress from the easy (simple) stages of each static posture (asana) or dynamic exercise.
The idea here was to show how to progress each movement without strain at the same time how to use active movements ('inner body energy') to get into postures rather than only external forces (such as gravity, other limbs or momentum).
Many of these postures are used in the ashtanga vinyasa beginner, intermediate and advanced series. The active movements method I use here is ideal for use in ashtanga vinyasa yoga and for developing strength, flexibility and fitness without stress.
This particular sequence, is the first half of the water series floor postures and was developed as part of the Yoga Synergy System by Bianca Machliss and I. Please note only one side of each pose is performed for demonstration.
APPROXIMATE TIMINGS OF EACH POSTURE/MOVEMENT:
0.00 Introduction
0.15 Headstand (sirsasana) plus variations
2.00 Paschimottonasana to Purvottonasana series
2.40 Janu Sirsasana to Ardha Matsyendrasana to Parivrtta Eka Pada Koundinyasana series
3.15 Parighasana to Krounchasana to Supta Parighasana to Bharadvajrasana to Eka pada Parsva Kukkutasana series
5.00 Baddha Konasana to Shakti Chalani Mudra in Bhadrasana (fast breathing followed by no breathing (Kumbhaka) with Nauli Kriya on exhalation retention and Bandha then spinal movements on inhalation retention)
6.35 Navasana to Lolasana to Padmasana series
8.00 Eka Hasta Bhujasana to Eka Pada Poundinyasana series
8.30 San Calanasana to Eka Hasta Mayurasana series

"It is very important, but not enough, to know where your muscles and bones are ... You have to know what to do with them!"
This course is the public version of the award winning RMIT university course written and presented by physiotherapists and yoga teachers Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss. It is the culmination of the 30 years of teaching experience and the practical application of the 'Yoga Anatomy and Physiology' course.
Each course is 120 hours fully online and is CEP points credited.
Thanks to Chris Johns for filming this demonstration on my iPhone and also for filming most of our more professional looking blogs and DVDs.
